CO2GeoNet: the European Network of Excellence on the geological storage of CO2

CO2GeoNet, the European Network of Excellence on the geological storage of CO2, brings together 26 public research institutes and more than 300 researchers, spanning 19 European countries. BRGM is much involved in managing this network.

CO₂GeoNet, the Network of Excellence on the geological storage of CO₂, was founded in 2004 by 13 public research institutes across 7 European countries. It brings together more than 300 researchers with the multidisciplinary expertise needed to address all aspects of CO₂storage.

Active in the domains of joint research, training, scientific advice, information and communication, CO₂GeoNet is paving the way for the efficient and safe geological storage of CO₂through its independent nature and scientific excellence.

CO₂GeoNet was created in 2004 as a Network of Excellence under the EC 6th Framework Programme (FP) for 5 years. In 2008, the Network became a non-profit Association under French law to ensure durability. In 2013, CO₂GeoNet opened up its membership to new organizations to enable a wider, pan European coverage and to continue collaboration with former members of  CGS Europe, an EC 7^th FP project coordinated by BRGM and in which CO₂GeoNet participated.
